IHS 2018 Call For Abstracts is now OPEN

Welcome to the International Herpetological Symposium!

In order to present at the IHS 2018 meeting in Houston Texas, June 20-23, all speakers must be sure to meet the below deadlines:

March 15, 2018 – Abstracts due

June 1, 2018 – Proceedings manuscript due

Please submit abstract and manuscript directly to IHS President, Jennifer Stabile, jens@fieldprojects.org

Abstract Guidelines:

  • Font 12pt Times New Roman, single spaced
  • 150 words or less
  • Save as a Word doc. In the following format: Last name, First name, Talk title
  • No pictures, graphs, or media
  • Must include all contributing authers and/or permits
  • Presentations must be professional and appropriate for all ages

INFORMATION NEEDED FROM EACH SPEAKER:

Upon Abstract Submission

  • MINIMUM contact information required for each speaker: Name, title, institution, city, state, email (for communication) and cellphone (in the event we need to contact you during the meeting).
  • If there are spouses/family members accompanying the speaker, please tell them to register as SPOUSE (requiring payment).
  • Confirm presentation length (e.g., 15, 20, 30, or 40 minutes) of presentation needed; these are the times to which they will be held.

Manuscript Guidelines:

  • Font 12pt Times New Roman, double spaced
  • Manuscript, an average, should be 1-3 pages in length, not including acknowledgements or literature cited sections
  • Be sure to use proper citations (Author(s), year published)
  • Save as a Word doc. In the following format: Last name, First name, Talk title
  • Submit photos, tables, or graphs as a separate attachment; label as Fig. 1, Table 1, and so on.
  • Must include all contributing authors and/or permits
  • Must include a literature cited section using either APA or MLA format.

 

COMPENSATION PACKAGES FOR SPEAKERS (not including the BANQUET & KEYNOTE):

Each speaker will receive a $100 honorarium per annual meeting to help offset travel expenses plus waived meeting registration and banquet fees, as well as free access to icebreaker and any zoo tours. Honorarium checks will be distributed during the meeting by the Program Chair following each session The honorarium is only presented to speakers who fulfill their speaking, abstract, and manuscript obligations by the deadlines.

If speaking as part of the IHS collegiate symposium, with talk lengths of under 10 min, you will receive a $50 honorarium per annual meeting to help offset travel expenses plus waived meeting registration and banquet fees, as well as free access to icebreaker and any zoo tours. Honorarium checks will be distributed during the meeting by the Program Chair following each session. The honorarium is only presented to speakers who fulfill their speaking, abstract, and manuscript obligations by the deadlines.

TRAVEL AND REGISTRATION

Lodging and travel must be arranged and paid for directly by the speakers. All speakers should submit a registration form (available on the IHS website) – marking GRATIS for Speaker on the form. Spouses or family members who wish to attend symposium sessions and the banquet must be registered and paid for each full (Student and Spouse rates are available at a discount).
